Leadership Portland Spotlight: MaryKay West

Leadership Portland Spotlight: MaryKay West

Name: MaryKay West
Company: Collier International
Job: Senior Vice President

Why MaryKay got involved in Leadership Portland:
I wanted to learn more about the issues and challenges in our region, in concert with a variety of other motivated and interested folks, so we can see how issues interact, brainstorm possible strategies, and actively become part of the solutions.

Why it’s important:
Understanding community issues is critical because they rarely exist in a vacuum, they are complex, and they can require broad perspectives, knowledge and experience to solve. It's important to develop leaders who can bring their expertise to the table as well as gaining buy-in and support from their various spheres of influence.

Why MaryKay loves Portland:
Easy access to water - rivers, the ocean, lakes, etc. Water calms me and revitalizes me!

Fun Fact:
I am a recent heart attack survivor which led me to my current volunteer role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign. As a former lifelong competitive athlete, my heart event has completely changed my life and I find myself wondering "who I am" in this next chapter.
